UNITED PLATES of AMERICA
UNITED PLATES of AMERICA
About the Artist: Alan Holcombe Alan Holcombe started his creation of UNITED PLATES of AMERICA when he retired from the advertising business in 1999 after 48 years of working in the area of automobiles and travel. His fascination with all things automotive led to his collection of license plates from all over the United States. His artistic talents and interest in crafts propelled him into a beautiful collage of the plates, painstakingly hand-cut into the shape of the state and placed into their correct geographical position (with the exception of Alaska and Hawaii). Each plate is securely soldered together (similar to stained glass) ensuring it's durability. The original work is approximately 3' x 5'. The popularity of the originals brought about the printing of full-color posters and the production of a challenging 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle. Hand-cut children's puzzles are in the works and individual states are also available. Al now spends his time creating originals purchased from people around the country. You can view this unique work of art at some of the shows and festivals listed below. Feel free to contact him to see where he'll show up next.
